Surely one of the rarest RMK’s I have come across in quite some time. A cut down tang model 15 from the period the early/mid 1960’s is unheard of. To find this example and it being “SS” stamped is like finding kryptonite!
I have had a model 14 cut down tang from this period with saw teeth (never offered from RMK) no less with a low “S” stamp. It is pictured in Bob Hunt’s first book. So to say I was surprised when this 15 turned up is an understatement.
The knife is in near mint condition showing a few slight “sheath scratches” that show in the “right” light. The blade shows absolutely no sharpening or use. Has original grind and polish.
Single finger flat top hilt and adjoining seven spacer stack show no issues and are in beautiful condition.
The stag handle has a great mellow hue that only comes with age.
The Maurice Johnson split-back sheath is in unused condition showing minor handling but no real use. The sheath lacks model or blade length stamping. The leather toe tie has been removed.
The correct two tone crystolon stone in in the pouch.
Overall this is a prime example of when Randall still made “custom orders” for individuals requesting something a bit different for their use requirements. It is also a prime example of possibly the rarest “SS” stamped knife in existence.
